The Mother, as president of the SAS, gave the name Auroville to the new township project and invited Roger Anger as the chief architect.

  • CAA suspended by Mother with the explanation: “No more committees, no more useless talks”.
  • AV Planning Group established (to which Mother bestowed the name L’avenir d’Auroville – Auroville’s Future“, however when she did so is not known).

Centre for Urban Development (CUD): a project under Auroville Trust and another name for ARC

1988

  • Roger supporters took over the planning office from ARC/CUD and announced the revival of L’avenir known as Aurofuture.

1991 – 1994

Planning Group: a representative group with members selected from various informal groups such as forest, financial, mapping, housing, etc. The initiative that they took up was asking four architects – Ajit, Helmut, Piero and Suhasini – to formulate a development plan for the sectors 1& 2 of the Residential Zone.

1999

Land Use Plan (LUP) > Land Coordination Group (LCG) > Land Use Coordination (LUC): created to conduct the Perspective 2025 MP.

2001

Development Council (DC): established in the course of officialising the Perspective 2025 MP.

2004 – 2007

AV Planning and Development Council (APDC)

Town Planning Group (TPG) operated under this council

2007 – 2011

in 2007 APDC & L’avenir/Aurofuture decided to bring all the active planning groups under a single cluster and wrote up a mandate for it.

Until 2011 this new body operated under the name L’avenir d’Auroville, in 2011 it was renamed to L’avenir d’Auroville/ATDC.

2011

Constitution of ATDC gazetted

2017

ATDC restructured by the RA with a new mandate. The new mandate and organization were not recognized by the GB that subsequently passed the Standing Order of 2019.

since 2021

The GB undermined the RA-selected ATDC and issued a new standing order and office order appointing their preferred members and have since been imposing decisions on the RA.
